FAQ’s About Chiropractic

WHAT’S AN ADJUSTMENT?

A chiropractic adjustment is a procedure in where chiropractors use their hands or instruments to apply a controlled, high speed force to a joint. Having an adjustment stimulates the body to heal.

HOW DOES CHIROPRACTIC WORK?

Your body is a self-healing, self-regulating organism that is controlled by your nervous system. If your body is working properly, there is good communication between your brain, down the spinal cord and every organ and tissue. If your spine is not experiencing proper function, this can cause a subluxation or nerve interference, and it can interfere with this communication within the brain. An adjustment improves and restores function of the nervous system, so the communication between the brain and the rest of the body works optimally.

HOW MANY ADJUSTMENTS WILL I NEED?

The number of adjustments varies with each person and depends on the goals of the patient.

CAN CHILDREN BE ADJUSTED?

Yes, it is particularly important for a child or baby to be adjusted. Just the effects of the birthing process can affect a child’s spine. If a child is having disturbances in sleep, eating, unusual crying, having chronic infections, or developing slowly, such as in walking or speech, it may be that the child needs a chiropractic adjustment to reset the nervous system so that it can function properly. HOW DO YOUR GET A SUBLUXATION OR NERVE INTERFERENCE?

Stress on the body is what causes problems with the signal from the brain to the rest of the body. There are 4 types of stress: Physical (falls, slips, accidents, etc.); Emotional (anger, fear, financial or work-related stress, etc.); Chemical (pollution, foods, medications, etc.); and Electomagnetic Radiation or EMR’s (cellphone, wireless waves, etc.)

DO I HAVE A SLIPPED DISC?

Between every spinal bone is a disc that holds jelly-like material, making it easier for your spine to move. Discs can herniate, thin, dry out, but it cannot slip. Your best option is to come and have a consultation with one of our doctors.

DO I HAVE A PINCHED NERVE?

A pinched nerve is rare. It is more likely that a spinal bone has irritated or rubs on an adjacent nerve. This causes pain by altering the signals that are sent form the brain to the body. A chiropractor can restore these signals to the brain.
